Excel edit paste special subtract

By exjc ·
I copied (ctrl-c) a range of values that include formulas, when I subtract these by using edit-paste-special-subtract, the formulas now subtract the formula itself.
The formuals was =(SUM(H9:H12))before the edit-paste-special-subtract but now the formula is(SUM(H9:H12))-(SUM(H9:H12). I have done similiar pastes in lotus 123 but in 123 it ignores any cell that is a formula. Is there a way around this "feature" in excel?

To subtract the results of a formula, when you choose Paste Special, also select the Values option.

Excel edit paste special subtract

Tried that,
Before: =(SUM(F9:F12))
After: =(SUM(F9:F12))-202227
(202227 was the sum of the values in f9-f12)
Edit-PasteSpecial-Values-Subtract still adjusts the existing formulas to subtract a number (the value of the formula itself)which stillleaves me with no way to subtract a long range of values (that include formulas)without effecting the formulas in that range.
try it.

Hello exjc,

In the 'Paste special' dialog box, you need to select both the 'Values' option in 'Paste' section; and 'Subtract' option in the 'Operation' section.

I would be glad to provide any more help you may need in this regard.

with bestregards,
