Excel file corruption on Netware server

by pteipe . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

Over the last 3 weeks, I have had some weird problems with Excel files on my netware 4.10 server. We are a mixed shop with NT and Netware. NT doing mostly IP based routing and Internet functions, and Netware handling File & Print. Most of the endusers run either windows 95 or 98, Netware client 32, Client for Microsoft Networks. I have seen a pattern of Excel files that have been left open according to the file server, yet the users close their files before logging off and going home. When a user tries to open one of these, they get a message “the file has already been opened in Read/write. click ok to open in read only mode”. You click ok,
and it is unable to open a simple read only copy of the file. Seems like a file locking problem – possibly something to do with Client32?
