Excel found unreadable content in file

By robertnewstone ·
Tags: Software
I started getting this error in my Excel file with some macros.
"Excel found unreadable content in file error. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes"
Then I click Yes.
Then window with this appears:

"Repairs to file
Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content.
Removed Records: Formula from /xl/worksheets/sheet2.xml part
Removed Records: Formula from /xl/calcChain.xml part (Calculation properties)"

And here is the long that they provide in the link:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="true"?>
<recoveryLog xmlns="logFileName>error094640_01.xml</logFileName><summary>Errors">http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main"><logFileName>error094640_01.xml</logFileName><summary>Errors were detected in file '\\fscommon\misc09\BI Team\Remedy BI Tool\Weekly Dashboards\CRQ\CRQ-150417.xlsm'</summary><removedRecords summary="Following is a list of removed records:"><removedRecord>Removed Records: Formula from /xl/worksheets/sheet2.xml part</removedRecord><removedRecord>Removed Records: Formula from /xl/calcChain.xml part (Calculation properties)</removedRecord></removedRecords></recoveryLog>

RE: Excel found unreadable content in file

I think you have the term workbook and worksheet mixed up. A workbook can be made up of many worksheets. From a windows perspective, workbook=file. So if you have multiple files with these problems, there may be some other sort of corruption causing the problem. So just to be safe I would make sure you have backup copies of these files in case the corruption becomes worse.

Anyway, as for solving this, I guess you could write a macro that opens and closes every workbook. However since this is a one time deal, it might be easier to just manually open, fix and save every workbook that has the issue. As I said, just make sure you have a backup copy of the files as they are now before you fix them.

Or try this
