how can i write a macro in excel to take a value in DE A1 and put it into DB K6 and have it retain that value so i can add to it everytime the DE A1 is changed so i can keep a running total on that cell...?

Your question is a little vague. Can you expand on it?
If all you want is a running total, that is easily done with a formula.
Assuming that DE and DB are workbooks, the formula in DB could be as simple as

=?[DE.xls]Sheet1?$A$1

If you?re looking to copy the results of a formula and add the value to another cell, that can be done by recording the actions and using Paste Special> ADD.

i have 2 worksheets...one is de and the other is db..i have entries in the de sheet that i want to retrieve that # to my db sheet..i want the # once in the db to always be there and allow me to add to it...cause the # in the original de will change daily...i want to some how automatically update the worksheet once a day or night and keep a running total on my db sheet..ex: today de a1 is 50....i want that to go into db h1...ok now tommorrow comes and de a1 changes now to 25...i want my db h1 tonow show 50 + 25 = 75...
