Excel locks up computer

By Red Dragoon ·
This is for a client who just got upgraded from NT to W2K. He has a Dell GX1 with 128 MB and Office 2000. When he is working in Excel, primarily copying cells, his computer locks up completely, no Task Manager available. I have installed W2K SP 1 and 2, and also 1 and 2 for Office 2000. I have also completely removed and reinstalled Office 2000 and service packs. I am at a total loss. Could this be a hardware problem?

Do you restart or turn off the computer when you removed the office and the services pack? Have you try to install W2k from the begining, not make and upgrade? I don't think it is a Hardware problem because I asume the equipment was working properly when it has the NT.Please give me the answer to the Q..And let me know what happend.

Hi Red Dragon:

I have this same problem here with my users and it consists of slow movement while working in Excel such as, freezing while copying and pasting, when scrolling down the spreadsheet slow movement as well, all kinds of disruption. Isee that if you go to the tools menu, options and uncheck the Page Breaks box under the Windows options helps a great deal.

Its very odd but I have thought of almost everything that it could be that is causing this and cannot come up with a complete answer. And also, it seems as if it is not a hardware issue.

Hope I've helped.

He had a built-in video card and another PCI video card. We removed the video card, and he hasn't had any more problems. Thanks for your help, though.
