Excel Timekeeping

Considering we are not going out to buy timekeeping software for six employees, I’ve been using Excel. I have been asking people to enter their time in military format therefore I can tell when the start, go to lunch, come back and end. For example, 8am-noon, 1pm return from lunch, and 5pm end would be 08:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 17:00 on my timesheet. Then I use a simple formula to subtract to get the actual time worked. IS there another way to do this and avoid using military time? Someone ended their day at midnight and it looked like 00:00 and I didn’t like sending that off to our customer. Also, is there a way to mutiply time by a rate? For example, some employees work 7 1/2 hours which I manually convert to 7.5 to multiply the rate to it. Is there a formula that gets around the manual conversion? Thanks.
