Excel wizards please help!

By danfalconar ·
I'm at my wits' end trying to figure this out. I'm trying to write an advanced timesheet in Excel. At the simplest level, here's what I want to do, which is the root of my problem (in conjunction with my lack of knowledge):

I want to select a number of hours from a drop-down box, then click a button which will put today's date into the first cell, then put the number I selected into the second cell. I haven't a clue how to do this!

What I actually intend to do is much more advanced than the above (i.e. incorporating more information and adding graphs, etc.), but if I know how to do the above then I might be able to move onto the advanced stuff.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Dan

Lots of ways to do it depending on what you wan to do, but here?s one way:

Someplace in your Workbook, create a list of numbers. Give that list a name (Insert>Name>Define).
Using the Form toolbar, place a List Box on the Worksheet. Right click to box and choose Format Control. On the Control tab put the list name in the first box and the address of the Cell link or ?display? cell (such as C1) in the second box.
Write a simple macro like:

Sub TodaysDate
Range(?B1?).Value = Now
End Sub

Right click the List box again and Assign the TodaysDate macro.
