Excel won't launch

By hawgfan ·
Reinstalling didn't help this but if I'm in Windows Explorer and double-click on an xls file, Excel opens but to a blank worksheet, so to speak. It is not actually a worksheet, it is just he gray background. Same problem if I double click on a desktop shorcut to xls file. If I click Open, then find the file, it opens fine.

One of these may help

by IC-IT In reply to Excel won't launch

Open Excel and navigate to
Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
