excel97 and files

when we create an excel worksheet its starts out about 47kb but the size increases to over 1 meg by itself. we use no macros or popups its a simple form for users to use as a template. on a win95 workstation. over an nt network.

First, make sure the file was saved in "Microsoft Excel Workbook" format, and not "5.0/95 & 97" format, which increases the size.

Press Ctrl-End. This will move the cell pointer to the last 'used' cell. If the address of the last cell is far below the last cell containing data, you should delete those empty columns/rows to reduce file size

If you need to reset the last cell, there is a neat macro at this location:

They are saved as a workbook and it is only two pages long. No extra cells or rows. One this week was over 2meg! What a stumper.

These problems are always difficult, because the formatting on distant cells can be subtle.
