Excessive io errors

By rjfolger ·
I have a client that bought a Dell Dimension 4600 9 months ago. It came with Windows XP home. Due to virus problems I reinstalled the OS and reinstalled his applications and data. Now the client is experiencing a lot of io errors, particularly in regards to svchost.exe, explorer.exe, msnmsgr.exe, winlogon.exe, and iexplore.exe. Dr Watson showed all of these errors as exception number: c0000006 (in page io error). Could this be a hard drive or RAM error? I thought previously that it may be the hard drive. Any thoughts? This is a good customer.

I also pick up a lot of svchost errors, I would assume that it has something to do with the svchost itself, try and do some research on the internet about svchost. With my A+ knowledge a common contributor to IO errors is a faulty power supply, but I highly doubt it in your case.
