Exchange 2000

We've recently been having some MAJOR issues with Exchange server 2000. Running a Server 2000 environment, we came across our priv1.edb file being corrupted. Afer automatically dismounting, we noticed that the only backups we have are corrupted and when we try to remount the store, an Inconsistency error is given. In addition, after attempting to run several eseutil commands on the .edb, we can never finish running the eseutil /p. It get "stuck at 34% for over 1 1/2 hours and starts to use 1.7 gigs of the systems resources. When we exit out of the tool and attempt to run it again, the database repair progress will increase to roughly 62% where it will "hang" for a very long time. Then by the time we stop and re-run the tool, the repair stops at a little over 80%. We are in dire need of some help and advice here. Can anyone assist us?

One way to help with this is to copy out the priv, pub EDB's and STM files to a system with plenty of space. I'm betting you have several nasty corruptions and your best bet is going to be to use /d then /r to finish this. Depending on how big your EDB's are you may be sitting there for serveral hours. I had a 20GB Priv.EDB that took the better part of 13 hours to defrag. That is an extreme example but when you stop those processes, you are causing more damage to the database!!!
