Exchange 2000 SP2

By kdyck ·
I am getting ready to setup Exchange 2000 for my network. I am behind a CISCO 678 router and that router is using NAT/DHCP to assign IP addresses to hosts for the intranet. My question is this, Is there a way to get my Exchange server "public" without having to get my ISP to host an MX record so that people can send email directly to my server and not to my ISP. Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

You can register a domain name with register.com and point the domain to your IP address. You then have to set up DNS inhouse with MX and host records.

Example:
mail Mail Exchanger 'host name'
mail Host 'IP Address'

You would also have to open the necessary ports so the users on the outside can connect.

SMTP - port 25
POP - port 110
