the company I work for has exchange 2000 and has been running it for years. I’ve mentioned since day 1 that we should upgrade to Exchange 2003. However with the motto around here being “I fear change” when it comes to anything I.T. we have been stuck with Exchange 2000.
Now they want to expand their ability to get E-mail on the go and have finally open themselves up to getting Exchange 2003. However now the issue is whether or not to get a new exchange server or upgrade the ones we have.
This is where my question is. I have read that you can not do an in place upgrade from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 and you have to migrate from one server to the next. However I have heard a couple of people claim “Oh yea you can upgrade in place with Exchange 2000 to 2003.
So which one is it? Can I upgrade in place or will I need to migrate from one server to the next? Also any official links on the subject would be great since I wasn’t able to find any on Microsoft’s web site.
(of course I could have overlooked them as well.)
Also can any of you list some things that my users will see on their end as improvments once we change to exchange 2003?
