Exchange 2003 IS won't start on boot

By bradj1109 ·
When our MS Exchange server reboots, the Information Store service doesn't start automatically, but can be started manually after the server finishes booting. This behavior only started recently after performing some Microsoft updates. I don't see any error messages in the Event Log. Any ideas?

open the services box and see if it is set to automatic or manual start.

I checked that already, and it is set to automatic as per its default. I also set the properties of the service to restart it should it fail. I want to know why it's failing in the first place.

Are all the dependent services set to Automatic?

Yes, except for NT LM Security Support Provider, which is set to manual, but something else starts it.

It could be that the account credentils used to start the service automaticaly, no longer have rights to do so before the server is loaded.

Maybe one of the updates fixed an expliot in the service and it no longer runs automaticaly. Try checking the KB articales on the updates you applied that are related to the Information Store Service.
