Exchange 5 & pop mail for dial-up users.

By jokiem ·
We have Exchange 5 connected to the Internet through a 768 T1 leased line. My users would like to be able to get to their email mailboxes on the exchange server from their home dial-up accounts with their ISPs. We do not have RAS services installed.
1. What services/software need to be installed on the exchange server so those users can check their mail on the company's exchange server from their home Internet accounts?
2. What needs to be configured on the client machines?
Any help or resources to get me going on this project would greatly appreciated.

Exchange 5 automatically supports POP3 access. To allow your users at home to POP into their mailboxes, they would need the Internet Accessable address of your Exchange server (to supply for the name of the POP3 server). Also if you have a firewall you will need to allow access to port 110 to the Exchange Server.
NOTE: If your users configure their email clients at home to download the message and not leave a copy on the server, they would not be able to get that email, when back in the office.

You could also set up OWA for those remote users. Read about it here: http://www.slipstick.com/exs/owa.htm
