Exchange 5.0

By joepoling ·
I need to move Exchange 5.0 from one NT Server to another due to resource issues. Does anyone know how to do this successfully?

The Forklift Upgrade

by McKayTech In reply to Exchange 5.0

I think your best bet is going to be the "Forklift" method where you build the new server but just before you start the services, you transfer the database files from the old server.

You could also do a full backup and then restore it to the new hardware using one of the Disaster Recovery procedures for Exchange.

For information on the Forklift procedure, see article Q199954 on TechNet.

For the other options, go to TechNet and search on "Exchange v5.5 and earlier" and "disaster recovery" and you'll come up with all sorts of good information on the other options.

If you will go to, you will find almost all the help you need...Discussion lists, white papers, archives, etc. Make sure you research your question and search the archives before you post a question to the mail list however...If you don't, you will get flamed or ignored.
