Exchange 5.5

By Brian ·
I was wondering if there is a setting on Exchange 5.5 for in house mail and internet mail to come in directly to the client. What is happening is the mail sits in the exchange database and waits for the client to open his outlook program for the first time and mail starts coming in.Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds as if each of your Outlook clients is set to deliver new email to a personal folder file. If so, it will always behave the way you described. The alternative is to have Outlook deliver new mail to the user's Exchange mailbox. (This is a per-client Outlook setting under Accounts.) In that case delivery happens without the Outlook client's intervention. However, be aware that means that all messages remain in the Exchange Server database. If users want to archive messages elsewhere, they must explicitly move them to a personal folder.

I hope this helps.

Get a clarification on the first post. The option is actually under Tools->Services (accounts is only availble in Internet Only configurations, and the Microsoft Exchange Server service is only available in the Corporate/Workgroup configuration), Delivery Tab, select the 'Deliver new mail to following location' to change mail to their personal folders or leave it in their mailbox. If email is a priority for users it should remain in their mailbox and not on their desktops, because the exchange server gets backed up, and if anything happens to the desktop, their mail could be lost for good.

Hope this helps.
