The Agency I work for is looking for a Single Mailbox Restore program for their Exchange 5.5 environment. Can anyone recommend any solutions?

don’t do it, it’s not worth the time or hassle involved, instead go to your admin console and then select the private information store and set your deleted items retention time to 30 days that way you can recover any mail up until 30 days after being deleted.

Computer Associates has a backup product called ArcServeIT, and for what you need, in addition to the ArcServeIT product you’ll also need a Exchange Agent that will allow you to create backups to the brick level (each mailbox separately).

      Good luck!

Yep..I agree with the above answer. We use ArcserveIT here and have it back up at the brick level. Only had to restore a single mailbox once, but it worked well.

Veritas makes a great product (Backup Exec)that allows for single instance backup and recovery. The interface is nice, easy and pretty user friendly. Also, the program utilizes Wizards to either automate or at very least ‘dumb-down’ a backup or recovery job. You’ll need to purchase the Exchange component. It installs on your Exchange box (I believe it requires Exch SP2) with minimal overhead. Program is very stable. Pretty much the market standard.

WOW! I noticed all of the ArcServ suggestions. To that I say, hey ARCserv guys have you ever done disater recover restore? Huh?

Veritas Backup Exec with the Exchange module works great and disaster recovery is easy.

Can’t say I agree too much. I use Veritas’s BackupExec 8.0 w/Exchange agent which backs up at a mailbox level, which is great when you don’t want to restore everyone’s mailboxes, just the one that “accidentally” got screwed up, user intervention, act of God, or otherwise. ARCServe is just not an option I’ve ever liked using, and I’ve used both BackupExec AND ARCServe 6+…Just my $0.02
