Exchange 5.5 administrator mbox deleted!

by dawnwilkinson . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

Can someone tell me the importance of the administrator mailbox in exchange?
A colleague has deleted the mailbox but luckily the NT account was not deleted.

I do not want to recreate the mailbox because, as I understand it, it will not be seen as the same object.
I use Veritas Backup Exec and although I can recover mailboxes, the administrator mailbox is not available to recover. (Is this normal?)

Following instructions in a Network Press book, I ran Exch Administrator in raw mode to discover that my Site services account was “/unknown account”.
I have followed the procedure to add administrator as a Site Services account but have not deleted the “/unknown account” entry (should I?)

Is this Site services account the important part? Do I need to worry about the mailbox being deleted? Am I safe to restart the server or are there more things I should check?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
