Exchange 5.5 and user licences....

By The Learner ·
I have a problem with user licences and exchange 5.5.

A few employees have left the company so I have deleted their users from NT and their accounts from exhange. The problem I have is that their licences are still in licence manager and even though I delete or revoke them they keep returning !!. I think my exchange backup may reativate them but I cannot see how this can happen if the user dosnt exist in NT and they have no exhange mailbox??? wierd.....

1000 to the person that gives me the solution.

Exchange 5.5 and user licences....

We had the same issue. This is how we solved it.

If they are per seat NT licences then:

Stop licence services on any other server, it should just be running on the PDC, then we install any new updated licences and then delete old ones.

Itseems to only like being installed on PDC as other servers cause the problems.

The only other way is to totally re-install licence server, which isn't fun.

Hope this helps

I concur, most people disable the license service unless it really is the only way they can keep up with licensure. I think that's why most people never have problems with it! Traditionally, it injects more problems that it solves.

Our installation kept running out of licenses because it would use 3 or 4 for each user connected. Disable the license logging service. The accounts could be coming back through directory replication. If another Exchange Server shows an account not on your server your server will assume the other server is correct and add the account, even if it is one you just deleted.
