Does anyone know of a way to Automatically forward mail sent to an exchange address to another external email address?

Set up a rule in the mailbox using Outlook, Organize. Use the Rules Wizard. Works great for me.
Good Luck

I didn't mention I did not want to have to use an Outlook Rule.

Here is what I would do. Lets say your work address is joe@work.com and you want to forward your emails automatically to joe@aol.com.

1) make a custom recipient in Exchange Administrator, with an internet email address of joe@aol.com. Use a first name like Joe and a last name of "at home" so in your Global Listing, you may see "Joe at home" and "Joe Smith".

2) Under Joe Smith's mailbox properties, go to the Delivery Option tab, and where it says Alternate Recipient", put in "Joe at home", the custom recipient you just created in Step #1

You also have a choice whether or not to have copies stay in the regular mailbox.

Once done, anything sent to Joe@work.com, will not automatically be sent to Joe @aol.com, and you don;t need to rely on an Outlook rule, which may or may not work depending on if Outlook needs to be open.

Good Luck,

Richard

Although I have followed this, it dosn't work? Do I have to have mail forwarding turned on? Just because I setup an SMTP address as Joe@aol.com it dosn't send to that. Any ideas?

Richard's steps above should be all you need, although I've found it sometimes takes up to half an hour for it to kick in and start working. Make sure you've given it enough time to take effect, and if not, doublecheck the spelling in the Custom Recipient setup.
