exchange 5.5 connectivity problem

By nyg2k ·
I currently have two domains, GBMS(primary)and GBIF (seconday).GBMS contains a PDC(NT 4.0 SP6A), Exchange 5.5 SP3(BDC) server, and a member server(Proxy 2.0 SP1).GBIF contains one PDC(NT4.0 SP6A).A full two way trust exists between the domains. Clients are all Outlook 2K. When I try to connect to the Exchange server from the GBIF domain, Outlook gives me an error that i do not have permission to logon(no matter what account I try). Anybody experience anything like this? Let me know. Thanks.

If your account logon GBIF first, outlook will send your account information in GBIF to Exchange. So the access will be reject by GBMS. Try to re-configure your e-mail profile:

1. Start Outlook
2. Click menu Tools and then Services
3. in Advance tab of Exchange server
4. Select service Microsoft Exchange server and click Properties
5. Click Tab Advanced
6. In listbox logon network security, choose "None"

This will let outlook ask for password when starting. Key in the right account information in GBMS and then you can access e-mail associated with that accout.

You should make sure that when you create a mailbox for a user in the GBIF domain, you associate the appropriate account _from_the_GBIF_Domain_ with it. With your two-way trust relationship, this will be no problem.

That's exactly what it was. The ATM link between the 2 domains was down when they were implemented. All users were created on the GBMS and GBIF domains, respectfully, but the primary NT account was incorrect for GBIF users mailboxes in Exchange Admin. By reestablishing the account to the correct domain, our problem was solved.
