Exchange 5.5 – force ABV instead of GAL

    Locked

How can a custom address book view be forced on a user/group? Scenario – different companies with users on same box/org/site should not be able to view each other’s mailboxes.

This is a preliminary answer because I’m still playing with the idea of disabling access to the GAL through a registry hack of Outlook, but one possibility might be to hide all of the addresses in the GAL from everyone (from Administrator on the mailbox properties page, Advanced tab, click “hide from address book”). From Outlook, they would still be able to choose the GAL but it would appear empty.

Then create a public contacts folder for each company, populate it with the appropriate addresses, set permissions appropriately and tell Outlook to “show this folder as an e-mail address book”.

I tried it on my lab system and this solution seemed to do what you need it to do.

      regards!
