Exchange 5.5 migration & NT User List

By techgirl75 ·
Replacing old server with new. Both on network. New is BDC (for now) and old PDC. I have installed exchange on new and added the new server to the already existing Exchange site. I have replicated the public folders to be seen in new server, I have moved the mailboxes. Tried to install Internet Mail Service and receive the following error id no. 0xc002041d. When I looked it up, says that it is a privilege error. My account has ADMIN rights however. Everyones mail is working for right now, but it must be being routed through the old server since my connectors aren't set up right on new yet. Can anyone help me with this part of the migration? I can also see the NT User list on BDC but is it stored on this new server as well or is itreading it off of the old server? Do I need to export and import this list into the BDC? Thanks for any advice you can give

Try to log on with your Exchange service account, (The account you used to install Excahnge on the old server) and then install the IMS. I have found that the service account is necessary to get "Top" priviliged on the Exchange 5.5 server (Service Account Admin "Plus").

We did the same exact thing a couple of months ago. There can only be one IMC. First make sure that the new Exchange server is the home server for everone, users and public folders. Once you are certain that everything is homed on the new server, delete the old exchange server from the site and install the new IMC on the new server. Then refer to MS article Q15290

Also see Q152959, Q155216, I realize the latter refers to moveing to a server with the same name but the concepts are the same.

If you have any other quesions please feel fre to e-mail me at mlazzareschi@starkweathershepley.com
