Exchange 5.5 Q

By yourdebness ·
We have Exchange 5.5, Sp4 on a WinNT server. Can I block/reject an outside email address from coming in to any of our companies email accounts? For example, if a hacker sends a virus in an email to several employees can I block the email address in the Microsoft Exchange Administrator console somehow? I know it is possible to do indivually with the Outlook client application by making a rule but I would like to be able to do it using Exchange Server App.
Thanks,
debserrano@usa.net

This will probably sound kind of goofy but I have in the past set up a custom recipient with the email address I want blocked and then block it (the custom recipient).
I have only done this for individual users that have gotten harrassing email, soit's not a very good solution for multiple users.

Actually the 2nd answer did help. I had an issue with 2 servers but once I turned off the old email server the "Filter" answer worked. Refer to Answer 2 from hstahl76@hotmail.com

Since you want to block an external (Internet) address, you can do this without too many problems. Open up the properties of your IMS and goto the Connections tab. Click on the Message Filtering button. Add specific email addresses or domains to the list. You have the option of just deleting the message outright instead of moving it to the Turf directory. I recommend this option unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands to be checking the contents of the Turf directory. Like most changes to the IMS config you will need to start/stop the IMS service for this to take effect.

That does not work for external email address's...They still get through the system and to the internal email account.
