Has anyone demoted a DC on a WinNT server running Exchang 5.5 to a member server (perhaps by using Upromote), then brought that member server into a new domain?
There is a two-way trust between Domains A and B. (not in the same forest)
Domain A is WinNT, and has a PDC server and 2 DC’s one of which is running Exchange 5.5 with 25 mailboxes and 1500 custom recipients with external email addresses (students with unix email addresses). Domain A is still up and running, and we are near completion in migrating users and computer accounts into the new Domain B.
Domain B is Win2000 with Active Directory and three DC’s one of which is running Exchange 2000 (all new servers). Because of the public ldap issues with Exchange 2000 we are not using Exch2k at this time. I want to bring the Exchange 5.5 server into Domain B. I don’t want to use the ADC because my custom receipients would then become contacts in my active directory, and these users are already security principles.
Whatwould this transition break and what steps should I take?
