Exchange access over the net with a prox

By scott.mitchell ·
I have a boss that wants to open up the exchange server for home access. Not OWA and not Pop3 but normal access. My exchange server is behind a MS proxy 2.0 server. Is this possible and how would one do it? What are the risk's involved with it. We have OWA running now on the 5.5 box but most people have laptops and are on the road alot.

How about VPN?

by bmcfarlane In reply to Exchange access over the ...

Have you thought about using a VPN connection to accomplish this? Proxy will let PPTP traffic through if configured to do so which would allow authorized users to get to your Exchange server, although speed on an Exchange connection over the Internet will be be very fast. Best route would be to use Offline files for Outlook and then just use VPN to send/receive e-mail.

Hope that helps a little. MS has articles in their knowledge base about setting up VPN connections on an NT server.
