Exchange Administrator error

By Poindexter ·
I have exchange 2000 running on windows 2000 in a test environment and for some reason, the exchange administrator program running on the exchange server computer cannot connect to the server. Why can't the exchange administrator find the exchange server when it is on the same server? THe error is
A connection could not be made to the Microsoft Exchange Server Computer...
The Microsoft Exchange Server Computer Does not respond.

Microsoft Exchange Directory
ID no: DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM

Also, this is the exchange 5.5 administrator, is there a exchang 2000 administrator available?

You answered your question. When you installed exchange 2000 it should have added the exchange 2000 admin mmc snapin tool to your Administrative Tools.

If you dont see it, create a new mmc console and add the Exchange System snapin to it.

If it still won't connect make sure your exchange server is registering itself in DNS.

Good Luck

Poster 1 is on the right track. You may have to run a custom install of Exchange 2000 & install the management tools if the mmc snap-in is not available.
