Exchange and NT Event Viewer

By chiperdean ·
All,

I am running Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 Enterprise. I have turned on security diagnostic logging. I see the events and can understand them. I am wondering if there is a tool out there that will take the exchange events and put them in a nice formate and "Lamens" terms for the IT Management. When they want someone traced, they want names and such.

Thanks,

Shane

Exchange and NT Event Viewer

I doubt there are "Oil Lights" for exchange's event manager that are inexpensive. There are a number of third party Exchange tools that will parse the information and provide the type of reporting your looking for, most are expesive solutions. You could write a VBScript for WSH that would parse the information and return a formated document or email and exchange terms with common lang for free, or your time which really isnt "Free". A good point of refference is Windows NT Mag's Services directory that has a number of reputable software vendors that have the more price'y tools available, dont get me wrong, some of them are Kick Butt, but it comes down to what the business need is and a tool that goes unused is not a tool. If the 500 and upprice range is ok, by all means!

I have not tried this personally but I believe that either Seagate Info and/or Seagate Crystal Reports can extract info from the event viewer logs. Both these packages have a programming language built in (VBA style) with which you can set the report output text and set up nice pretty colours for managers and directors who usually like things like that.
