Exchange body not visible ?

By cochne ·
Hi all,

Could anybody tell me if this prob rings any bells?

We are using MS Exchange 2000 and OS Win 2k on our Small business server. Yesterday there was a huge power outage (we have no UPS) and when all restarted, in Outlook we are receiving all mails but when you try and view the body of the msg it says "can't open this item : the operation failed). If you try and use the preview pane it says "this item cannot be displayed in the reading pane" . It appearred that this only happenned with mails received after the outage as mails received just before are all ok, but looking futher back there are others that cannot be read? All services appear to be started ok and the event log appears not to say anything relevant. Tried rebooting but no joy. Any ideas, I know it's a bit vague?
Many thanks

Neil Cochrane

Missing / undelivered mail

You could try restarting the information store service to see if it will tidy up the info store database. You should also turn on the diagnostic logging for store and delivery events to track if the database has corrupted. You can see logged events in the Apps event log.
If the info store still fails you might be able to fix it by running "eseutil /g priv1.edb" from the mdbdata folder (I have the exchsrvr\bin folder p athed in environmental variables). The /g will check the priv1.edb database for integrity. Stop the info store service, but leave all other exchange services running.
It sounds like you might be a bit new to Exchange. If the eseutil tool doesn't fix your problem I would suggest you get an Exchange specialist in. Best of luck!
