Exchange Custom Recipients – NDR

by laj . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

I have a couple of employees with Exchange mailboxes (Exchange 5.5 Server SP4). Now they need their mail routed to a different internet SMTP Address. So, I created a Custom Recipient for the new internet address (someone@xxx.com) and added their current company email address (someone@ourdomain.com) as a secondary SMTP email entry.

Note: Their Exchange Mailbox still exists as well right now – just no SMTP email entries for it (to avoid duplicate entry with Custom Recipient).

When sendingto (someone@ourdomain.com) from an external source – it forwards on the email correctly to (someone@xxx.com). However, internally, when addressing to the Custom Recipient from the GAL responds with a NDR.

I am also trying to set the Mailbox to use an Alternate Recipient for receiving messages and pointing that to the Custom Recipient that was created. This is not working correctly either.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?
