Exchange licenses in SBS 4.5

By bleustig ·
An Outlook 2000 client is getting a message that there are no more Exchange licenses available. I have removed old users but still the message appears. The License Manager in the Control Panel says I need to use the Server Monitor to change licenses but that seems to only allow for additional licenses.
On another NT 4 network (not SBS) I had the same problem and was able to go into License Manager and simply delete the obsolete users' names and that freed up licenses.

Does anyone know howto free up obsolete user licenses in Exchange running on SBS 4.5?

Just go into 'services' in Control panel and stop the 'license logging' service. This should get rid of the problem.

This is a problem with Exchange and kicks in on NT too. We have come across it on many occasions, even though there were fewer users than licenses available.

Answer #1 is correct, also you can go into control panel and then services and stop the license loggin service & disable it for start up.

Just an aditonal note: Make sure that the number of clients you have do not exceed the number of licenses you have for SBS.

Best of luck!
