Exchange Migration Wizard for 5.5

By ratherbfishing ·
With service pack 1 for Exchange 2000, Migration Wizard added an option to Migrate from Exchange 5.5 servers in different domain/sites. Service pack 2 for Exchange supposedly improved this feature. My Problem:

I cannot connect to the 5.5 server with the Migration Wizard. I believe it is a permissions issue. At the screen where the 5.5 server name and logon information is entered, I get the error "Invalid server or you do not have the permissions required."

As per Technet Q281496, the logon I am using here has been granted Exchange admin rights over the Orginization, Site and Configuration containers. It is also an Admin for the NT domain.

More details:

The NT server on which Exchange 5.5 is running is the PDC and is running The latest service packs for exchange and NT 4.0.

The 2000 server that Exchange 2000 is running on is a Domain Controller and also has the latest service packs for W2K and Exchange. It is running in mixed mode.

I have also created two way trusts beween the 2000 domain and the NT 4.0 domain.

I have also made sure that the Exchange 5.5 server is using port 389 for LDAP.

I can ping the Exchange 5.5 server form the 2000 server so I know it can resolve the name.

I think the logon I am using needs additional permisions on the 5.5 server, but I do not know what those might be. Please help if you can!

Exchange Migration Wizard for 5.5

by Dynamo2003 In reply to Exchange Migration Wizard ...

You need to install CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) on the Exchange 2000 server. This creates an ADO extension that allows Exchange to 2000 to communicate with Excgange 5.5.

Refer to:

Planning and Installation Table of Contents
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Planning and Installation is the printed book included with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. A searchable, online version of Planning and Installation is available in the \Docs directory on the Exchange 2000 Server compact disc (CD).

The \Docs directory on the Exchange 2000 Server CD also contains Microsoft Word files that correspond to chapters in the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Planning and Installation book. The following table lists each chapter name and its file name.

Exchange Migration Wizard for 5.5

by Shanghai Sam In reply to Exchange Migration Wizard ...

CDO and ADO are both API's used for creating customized solutions. Nowhere in any of the documentation on CDO or Using the Migration Wizard do I see that CDO is required for connecting to an Exchange 5.5 server. That's what the Migration Wizard is for. Besides that, its already installed.
Thanks for your time but I don't believe this is the solution I am looking for.
