Exchange Question

Iam having a lot of problems attempting to upgrade Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2k. What I want to Know is if I can copy my Exchange folders to a different disk and then remove Exchange. Then reinstall Exchnage 2k and then put in the data back into the folders or some how import my data into Exchange 2k?
