Exchange Server 2000 internet email

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I am administering a single server domain that has Exchange Server 2000 that does not handle internet email. We are now going to host internet mail in house. I have the IP address and port numbers to use (from ISP – cable hookup). Clients have Office/Outlook XP already configured to Exchange Server. What am I going to have to change to 1. Get the exchange server to operate as xxx.com and 2. Make it so clients now can send and receive as janedoe@xxx.com in addition to what they already can doin house. I’m thinking that I may need to just set up the IP address and ports for POP and SMTP and the rest will work. Am I missing something. Am I going to have to do this at a time when I can reboot the server?
Thanks,
Norm
