    Exchange Server 5.5, Mailbox Resources

    Locked

    by kurt g ·

I have an Exchange 5.5 server in my Windows NT 4.0 network. When checking the mailbox resources, within the Private Information Store, I notice that the first column contains the users’ names, but the second column (which appears to be the associated NT account) does not always match the username? For example, John Smith might show up as DOMAINNAME\jsmith1 while Mary Jones might show up as DOMAINNAME\jsmith1, NOT mjones1. What is the problem here?

    Thanks,
    Kurt G.

The first column is the mailbox name and the second column is the currently logged user name.

This will occur any time someone (or a service) other than the mailbox owner logs on to that mailbox. Managers quite often have their mailbox set up sotheir secretaries can log on to get their mail.

Also, any service that logs onto the mailbox (e.g. Exchange-based virus scanning) will show up in that second column as well.

      What you’re seeing is normal.
