If I’m not mistaken, Outlook Express does not support Exchange Server – you have to use either the Exchange client or the full version of Outlook.

What is happening is that Outlook Express is trying to use Internet Mail (SMTP) to communicate withthe Exchange Server because it doesn’t know what an Exchange Server is.

Once you install Outlook, you’ll need to go to Tools-Services, click Add and add Exchange server to your profile (you’ll have to enter the server name and your mailbox name). THEN it should work.

if you want to use outlook express you can but you have to make sure you enabled pop3 and imap4 under protocols in your exchange console. then setup your outlook express client using your exchange server name as the pop3 and smtp server. But if you want full use of exchange go to outlook 2000 as your client./

I agree about using Outlook 98/2000 with Exchange 5.5, but for using Outlook Express you can:
      1) Install Internet Mail Conector at Exchange (see books online). Enable at Routing Tab the routing option and add the DNS name explained next, for inbound.
      2) Assign a local DNS domain (MyLocalCompany.net) for SMTP at Site Addressing object, Addresing tab.
      3) Enable anonymous logon to the LDAP directory at Protocol object on site.
      4) Configure Outlook Express with an account for mail to you Exchange server by Ip or DNS name: the same of TCP/IP settings & Site Addresing object. The users asked for logon are the same from NT user manager. Use Imap for connect.
      5) Configure an account for Directory.

      This is the big picture.

      Dear Sir,

      1) You can use Outlook Express with Exchange Server, I did it and work well just you have to know how to configure of your client ( Outlook Express)?!!!
      2) You have put in Incoming and outgoing in your Outlook Express ,type the Incoming and Outgoing mail server like mail.kuku.com it is must.
I am sure that you can do it.

Did you add an SMTP route in Exchange Admin?
