Exchange Service Pack

By rajashekar.surpurmath ·
Hello,

We are using Exchange Server 5.5 with SP2. We are planning to upgrade the Exchnage service pack2 to Exchnage service pack3. Do you please kindly suggest me how to go a head with this.
Thanks and regards

Exchange Service Pack

In my experience, Exchange v5.5 SP3 is one of the smoothest upgrades around.

As with all upgrades, you'll want to make sure you have good, verified backups (both on-line and offline). But once that is done, just run the upgrade from the CD or download file.

The upgrade will stop the services and it does upgrade the database so you may have up to a couple hours of downtime (depending on the size of your Information Store) during which your users will not have access to their mail.

The only other little "gotcha" is that the program to run the upgrade is called "update.exe" and it's buried a couple of levels down from the root on the upgrade CD.

Actually, Microsoft just released SP4 for Exchange 5.5 so you may want to go with that.

But the only other thing to look for, is what I ran into. Sometimes these SP's will not stop the services. So, when I tried to isntall the Service pack, it just went to a certian percentage and just stopped. the computer didn't freeze but the thing sat there for 10 minutes. I cancelled, went under Services, stopped all the exchange services, and then restarted the service pack install. This time it went through in no time at all.

Make sure you stop all your anti-virus services also.
