Exchange Space

By jbeherns ·
We run Exchange 5.5 and our email has almost entirely consumed the drive. Users have deleted vast quantities of email but the drive does not reflect the increased space available. Our tech advises compaction needs to be run in order to reflect thenew space, but the drive is lacking adequate space to run it and says we need a larger hard drive. Is this correct or are there other steps that can be taken for the drive to recognize the increased space?

Checked Deleted Item Retention Time

by Bremmerz In reply to Exchange Space

It's possible that even tho. the clients have deleted the mail, the mail is still on the Exchange Server so that the recover deleted items function still works.

Set the Deleted Item Retention Time to 0 days (you can do this from the properties ofPrivate Information Store) and this should flush out the 'deleted' mail and free up your disk space.
