Exchange sync

By mg_roberts ·
I just transfered all the clients to our in house exchange server from a pop3 server. none of their e-mails synchronized with the new server. they send recieve fine but all their mail stayed on their local machine only. how can i synchronize them so the mail is stored on the server and their local machines?

Were they using MS Outlook before? If so the mail is probably stored in a PST on their machines (.../documents and settings/username/application data/microsoft/outlook/ by default, I think.) You can import these into the exchange mailbox from outlook's file->import/export wizard. If they were using some other client, see what kind of export options are there.

You have to

Edit their Outlook profiles so that they are storing mail on the exchange server and not in .pst files. IMport the .pst file into their email box on the server (as previously suggested). Config the Outlook to cache a copy of email locally (outlook 2003 feature)

i ended up exporting the .pst, creating a new profile with an exchange account and then imported the .pst. worked pretty well, i was hoping there was some quicker way though. thanks for the help.

drag and drop

by bbraxton In reply to importing

Once you have set up your profile to include Exchange 2003 server mailbox (Inbox) you can even use drag and drop to Move email messages (wholesale or selectively) into it from your PST folder(s), doing away with the Export / Import sequence.
