Exchange with high CPU

by daviddrees . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

My configuration:
NT 4.0 (SP6a); MS Exchange 5.5 (SP4); Network Associates GroupShield 4.5
My problem:
Starting recently, whenever the IS maintanence starts, the CPU goes to almost 100%, and users have a hard time logging into Exchange. I have to reboot in order to bring the CPU down to normal (which is a much longer process than ususal under these circumstances). I have turned off all scheduled IS maintenance until I can solve the problem, and the CPU has been normal since then.

I havetried everything that I could find on Microsoft’s KB site. Some things were interesting, but nothing has worked. I re-installed SP4 on Exchange, I re-installed SP6 for NT, I ran the performance optimizer. I stopped all GroupShield services for the duration of the scheduled IS Maintenance process. All of these have done nothing to fix the problem.

I tried to run Isinteg.exe utility (v5.5.2653.22), but it never runs. No matter what switches I attach, it returns the usage screen and does nothing else. My problem could very well be something that this utility can fix, but I can’t get it to work.

I have a copy of the guidgen.exe utility, but have not used it yet because MS recommends that utility on Exchange 4.0, not 5.5.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions/previous experience, I would greatly appreciate reading your thoughts.
