How is it being done?

And how do I fix it.

I look in the queues in IMS and have tons of emails going out which are spam.

Under routing I have disabled routing of incoming mail but doesnt seem to help. Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to:
http://rr.sans.org/email/open_relay.php

It will explain exactly how to configure the 5.5 server to prevent relaying.

Good luck.

How it is being done is simple - someone finds out that you have open relaying enabled on your server and sets up their server to route mail through yours. This allows them to "hide" behind your server so that the recipient might not be able to find out where the mail is actually coming from. You have done what most people would think would work, but it doesn't - go ask the Microsoft people and they'll tell you the same thing although they probably won't be able to tell you why. What you need to do is enable routing (in the IMC, on the Routing tab, click the Reroute incoming mail. . . item) and make sure that your own domain name is listed as the "sent to" and <inbound> as the "route to". Then click the Routing Restrictions button and click "Hosts and clients that successfully authenticate". This should do it. Hope this helps!
