Execl and ME Conflicts?

I have 5 users running Windows ME. From time to time when they are working in an Excel document, the system will hang. After “end tasking”, users are unable to open Excel, they have to reboot the system in order to get working again.

Is this a known conflict and is there anything available to fix it?
