experiencing slow performance

PC is extremly slow when booting up. Often freezing before boot up process is complete. Running Win 98 second edition. Any suggestions?

Could be numerous items causing this.
Run MSconfig and uncheck all useless programs in startup, such as Realplay etc.
A common problem is a bloated or damaged registry. If you install and uninstall numerous programs over time the registry becomes bloated. Remedy is to use a "Registry Compactor" or better yet do a clean install.
If registry is damaged, boot into command prompt and run C\:scanreg /fix.
Before you go there make sure you have cleaned out your C:\windows\temp directory and emptied the Recycle Bin, these areas can slow you down if they are loaded up with useless files. Rountinely (Monthly)running Scandisk and Defrag in Safe Mode is highly recommended.

low hard disk space. badly fragmented hard disk

Hi

Start by opening ie

go to tools and delete all temp files

do an adaware scan via spywarenuker or spybot and lose all the chosen files

Now a days... Your system may be fritzed with spam/Spyeware. Has your system ever had Maintenance [Defrag, Scandisk,Etc.]?
