    Explorer bombs out

    Locked

    by robert.marsh ·

    When attempting to access a network folder or file, Explorer simply closes (disappears) and eventually drops you back to your desktop. The error in Event Viewer reads:

    Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1221, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.1217, fault address 0x000080db.

    What causes it and how do I rectify the problem? Keep in mind that the latest updates, including SP’s, have all been applied prior to this development.

      One cause I know is that if you have Win2000 then you install IE6, this sometimes causes problems for windows explorer. IE6 is not stable with win2000. Whenever you open IE or folder, your desktop turns to blue then goes back to normal. The suggestion I did for my client is that to reformat to win2000 and don’t upgrade to IE6, or winxp if he wants IE6. Well hope this helps.

        Again, this OpSys is Windows XP Pro including all updates and Service Pack.
        The computer has been functioning fine for MONTHS. This just began to occur TODAY!

      Run a SFC
      Throw your OS disk in your drive,
      Start->Run
      Type “cmd”
      type “cd\”
      type “sfc /scannow”
      *Don’t type the quotations and yes, there is a space between “sfc” and “/scannow”.

      This usually resolves most of the errors you will encounter with IE or OE.
