Explorer Caused an Invalid page fault

by m.r.chambers . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

I have a client using windows 98 on his laptop. Wen he starts the computer, he is able to log in, but then a fatal exception error message appears. The details say that “Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in Module EXPLORER.exe at 015f:00401f31”

The mircosoft support site has several pages on this (or similar) messages, but none of the solutions appear to work.

For example, it was suggested that the win95 version of Explorer was on the root directory, but it wasn’t. Also, several pages referred to problems starting after the user updated video drivers, Internet Explorer, etc, but none of these things were done.

When starting in Safe Mode, can start windows but nothing except the desktop image(not even start bar) appears, and the End Task list is completely empty.

Any ideas?
