Explorer hanging

By Able-Admin ·
I have a problem with one of my w2k ws machines that I just cant figure out. Immediately after restart the computer, explorer starts hanging when the user tries to use IE or just browse drives. The administrator account however has no problems. Now here's the strange part. If I just ignore it, the problem dissapears after 12 hours or so and its completely fine untill the next time I need to restart it.

The computer is completely patched, not reporting any errors and seems in perfect physical condition. Any ideas?

It sounds like there is corruption in the user's profile. Log in as administrator, backup any documents in the user's profile, and delete said user's profile. Log out, log back in as the user to create a new profile. Maybe even try to copy the administrator's profile to the user's, since the admin profile works fine.

when I go to copy the user profile via the control panel it only shows administrator and guest accounts. How do I copy the three domain user accounts stored on this computer? Roaming profiles are NOT being used.

We had the same problem. PROFILE! PROFILE! PROFILE. Either corrupted or too large or both.
Might be the size, since it does work eventually.
If too large look into directory redirection for email & MYDOCUMENTS.

Best way with corrupted profile (good to do in any event) is backup and redo.

When I go to copy the user profile thru the Control panel, it only shows Administrator and Guest. There are three other user profiles on this machine in a domain environment (not roaming profiles). How do I copy these profiles?

Its alsodoubtfull that it is too large. The accounts are only used to access and edit files on the server.

To delete or rename the other profiles try going directly to c:\Documents & Settings using Explorer. The additional profile driectories should be seen from there under their login ids.

Maybe reinstall IE, have your computer memory inspected or check your hard drive for errors.
