i have a user that is having 2 issues:
1) the user has an external hard drive hooked up to his PC and also has a drive mapping to our network. drive g: is the external hard drive and is suppose to be named “extradrive”, drive h: is the network drive mapping and is suppose to be named “domainname-directory” however both drive g: and h: are named the same in explorer – extradrive or what ever we rename one of them, the other is named the same) the external drive was just installed on his computer last week (10/19/07)
2) when he renames a file in explorer (right click on file name and chooses rename), he has to refresh explorer in order to see the change. otherwise if he does not refresh the old name is there, once refresh, the new name is there.
at one point when he was having the second issue about 4 months ago, i renamed his doc and settings directory, had him log in and recreate everything for him and it seem to work for a while than about a month or so later the issue came back and he did not want to go through recreating his profile and still does not want to go that route. which i do not blame him.
Does anyone have a clue as to what maybe causing these issues and how to fix these issues?
