“Explorer.exe” blows up…(win2k)

by eng21 . Updated 25 years, 5 months ago

Problem: I have a user that has Win2k on a Toshiba Tecra laptop. Almost immediately after getting the machine, Explorer.exe blows up every time he tries to do a search on the machine for files or folders. Error is as follows:

“Explorer.exe hasgenerated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.”

Then I go to the event viewer, and find this:

SOURCE: Winlogon

“The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.”

Very descriptive, I know. I’ve looked all over MS KB for anything and came up empty handed. This issue needs resolution w/o re-installing Win2k on the machine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance any help.
Eric
