Explorer.exe/ThunkConnect32 dll problems

By trockid ·
Getting an error message every time my Win NT4.0 workstation boots up to windows that says in the header "Explorer.exe - Entry Point Not Found" the body of the error says "The procedure entry point ThunkConnect32 could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll"
I have tried using "regsvr32 /u thunkconnect32" to unregister the dll and then register it again, but i get the same error whether i try to register or unregister it "LoadLibrary("ThunkConnect32") failed. GetLastError returns 0x0000007e."
I'm at a loss as to how to fix this error. Another thing to note is that everything works fine when you click "ok" on the initial error, but I'd reall like to resolve this anyway.
Thanks,
David Trocki

Explorer.exe/ThunkConnect32 dll problems

by Lizzy In reply to Explorer.exe/ThunkConnect ...

I did a search and looked around a bit and it looks like it could be a virus called:
JS_kakworm.a
which I saw some info at this site for:

http://forums.techguy.org/t71478/s9236d698ad39c497b0364d1a7de20b5d.html
(remove any spaces from URL)

Some other sites that talk about Thunks pretty much refer to older OS's than NT 4.0, so it could very well be some virus that's trying to run on your system, calling an older 32bit version of the program\virus. Here are some of the other sites that talked about thunks: (again, remove any spaces)

Good information, however, there was no virus.

Thunking is a great name for calling 16-bit routines from 32-bit code, and vice versa.
Check to see if you have the latest video drivers. Look for legacy apps.

Good info to know, however, the problem was fixed by running rundll32.exeblah blah blah in the command line to load the dll.
